Speed signs are another form of regulatory sign and tell you what the speed limit is for a stretch of road.
The speed limit is the fastest speed you can safely travel in good conditions.
Speed limits keep traffic flowing smoothly and safely and reduce your chance of having a crash.
There are a range of Speed signs in Queensland. Three of the most common types are shown below.
SPEED LIMIT
You must not drive faster than the speed limit shown in the circle. The speed limit applies until the road ends or you pass another speed sign.
Speed limits are there to keep you safe. Don't drive faster than the posted speed limit—even when overtaking.
These signs can change the speed limit in real time. Speed limits may change due to weather or traffic conditions, such as heavy rain or a crash.
You must follow the speed posted on these signs—just like any other speed sign.
The circle around the speed limit will flash to show that the speed has changed.
You’ll help keep traffic flowing and reduce stop-start driving by responding to the displayed speed.
The speed limit in local streets or built-up areas in Queensland is 50km/h, unless otherwise indicated by signs.
A local street or built-up area is an area that has buildings and/or street lights that are not more than 100m apart.
